ANCHOR BAY HIGH SCHOOL: 2
The Eisenhower Varsity Hockey team started the season strong by defeating the Anchor Bay Tars 8-2 in a MAC Red showdown at Suburban Ice in Macomb. Ike got the scoring started midway through the 1st period as defenseman Spencer Solomon stepped up into the high slot to grab a loose puck and fired it to the back of the net. A costly Ike turnover deep in their zone late in the first allowed Anchor Bay to tie the score. First period ended in a 1-1 tie.
Ike took advantage of three Anchor Bay penalties in the 2nd period and scored on all three power play opportunities. Ike also added an even strength goal to build a 5-1 lead after two periods of play. Two goals by Param Vyas and one each by Jaden Blevins and Jack Hammond capped off the 2nd period scoring.
Ike started the 3rd period shorthanded due to a penalty late in the 2nd period, but that didn't stop the scoring effort. On the penalty kill, Jason Geiger intercepted a pass at Anchor Bay's blue line and made a pass over to Param Vyas who scored his third goal of the game for a hat trick. A few minutes later, that same duo struck again for an even strength goal giving Vyas 4 goals and Geiger 4 assists on the night while building a 7-1 advantage. Anchor Bay ended up scoring on a late power play, but Ike came right back and finished the scoring when Jaden Blevins flipped the puck in the air over four Anchor Bay defenders to find a streaking Bryce Chomiak who deked the goalie and buried a sweet backhand!
