Swinehart played host to two District 15 games this evening, the first ending in a 3-0 Romeo win over Utica and second which ended up a knock-down, drag-out battle between Ford II and Eisenhower in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd. This was the third time the teams have met, this season. Eisenhower came out on top in both the regular season matches but would take nothing for granted in District play. Ford II came out all guns a blazing and had the Eagles on their heels, in a defensive position for most of the half. Ford had a strong wind at their backs, but after 40 minutes of play, the game was scoreless.
The second half, was more offensive for Eisenhower, they were able to maintain possession more but were still unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities. Keepers on both end of the field came up with big saves, to keep the the game deadlocked, 0-0 at the end of regulation, forcing the teams into overtime.
In the first overtime period, the Eagles took charge and as has been the case throughout the season, the teams leading scorer stepped up big-time. At the 2:32 mark in the first overtime period, Junior Lexi Morrison was able to tap the ball into the net on the first bounce from Senior Bianca Candela's free-kick, putting Ike up 1-0. Sophomore Goalkeeper Amy Sidaway had a key save late in the game, which sealed the 1-0 victory, sending the Eagles to the Semi-Finals of Districts next week, vs. Stoney Creek. This is a huge rivalry and traditional District matchup and always proves to be a good matchup. The game is currently set to be played on Tuesday 6/1 at 5:30pm. The game will be played at the District host field at Rochester Adams - - let's PACK THE SEATS with Eagles fans!!!
